SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California lawmakers on Tuesday sent the governor a bill that would make the state the first requiring public schools to include the contributions of gays and lesbians in social studies curriculum. The bill, passed on a party-line vote, adds lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people as well as people with disabilities to the list of groups that schools must include in the lessons. It also would prohibit material that reflects adversely on gays. Democratic Assemblyman Tom Ammiano of San Francisco says SB48 is crucial because of the bullying that happens to gay students. Republicans called it a well-intentioned but ill-conceived bill and raised concerns that it would indoctrinate children to accept homosexuality.
"This bill will require California schools to present a more accurate and nuanced view of American history in our social science curriculum by recognizing the accomplishments of groups that are not often recognized," said Assembly Speaker John Perez, the first openly gay speaker of the California Assembly. The bill now goes to Gov. Jerry Brown, a Democrat, who has not said whether he would sign it. Former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed a similar bill in 2006. Assemblyman Tim Donnelly, a Republican from Twin Peaks, said he was offended as a Christian that the bill was being used to promote a "homosexual agenda" in public schools. "I think it's one thing to say that we should be tolerant," Donnelly said. "It is something else altogether to say that my children are going to be taught that this lifestyle is good."
I hate when the gay agenda comes up in my kids' faces. Talking about gays with kids brings up the topic of "what is gay, mommy?" This can force a discussion of Anal Sex with a child who is likely to be too young to learn about sex at all. Will gay history be taught to 5-year-olds in Kindergarten? What is to stop them if this bill is not vetoed by Governor Brown? Maybe Southern California really DOES need to split off from the Northern part of the state. Californians already spoke against the Gay Agenda. 52.5% of us are against Same Sex Marriage. 59% of young CA voters age 18 to 34, are also against Same Sex Marriage. I imagine at least as many are against a homosexual agenda being shoved down our kid's throats in school. This is beyond ridiculous. Our children are not guinea pigs for social experimentation. That is not what they are enrolled in school for.
The California Legislature could soon pass a bill that would require school textbooks and teachers to incorporate information on lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) Americans into their curriculum. The Fair, Accurate, Inclusive and Respectful Education Act, or SB48, which mimics a bill previously vetoed by then-Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, made it one step closer to becoming law Tuesday after being approved by the state’s Senate Judiciary Committee. The bill, introduced by state Sen. Mark Leno, could have a nationwide impact if passed because California is such a big buyer of textbooks that publishers often incorporate the state’s standards into books distributed to other states. Supporters say that’s a good thing because it will help prevent gay students from being harassed or bullied by their classmates. But critics say SB48 is just an attempt to brainwash students into becoming pro-gay political activists and ensure that government, not parents, has the final word on teaching kids about moral values.
This is not age-appropriate material. The first thing the child will want to know is the definition of gay. And to say that gay equals guys who like guys or gals who like gals is a lie. The little kids have friends of all genders and that does not mean they are gay, but that is the impression they will get if that is all they are told. This topic practically forces a discussion of vaginal versus anal sex. And believe me, I will be LIVID if the school system forces that discussion on my family before my kids are mature enough.
Is this the next step in the gay-marriage battle? Brainwash the children?
Punish bullies. Nobody should be bullied in school. Leave sexual practices out of it.
They allowed no public comment. And the local news crew emphasized how few protesters there were, but did not point out how well-attended the meeting was. Perhaps those in attendance were there to protest? They were not allowed to speak, although a few wore t-shirts with protestations on them. At heart here is the shocking plan that drew protests 4 weeks ago that started sex ed in Kindergarten, and homosexual ed in first grade. With the full gamut of sexual positions and practices TAUGHT in fifth grade. Plan supporters claim that since there is an opt-out provision that parents who object should be mollified, but I disagree. Even if "Johnny" is not present for the propaganda session, if most of his classmates are, he will likely receive an earful when he gets back to the playground. And did you know that Planned Parenthood was part of the committee that came up with this plan? Why am I not surprised. After all, Planned Parenthood stands to profit from early sexualization of children. More clients at a younger age equals more revenue.
I feel that parents should educate their children about these issues. I recall in fourth grade being shown a film in school that talked about menstruation. And in high-school science class being taught about condoms and diaphragms. Not once did anybody mention same-sex sex, or same-sex living situations. I think it is not age-appropriate to discuss these issues with first graders. I suspect the homosexual lobby wants to get to our kids while they are still young and impressionable, but that does not make it the right thing to do.
