Most of you have probably been paying careful attention to the Union battle going on in Wisconsin.  There is another battle that is being waged by the Left that needs our attention and most importantly our ACTION!!!

WISCONSIN Supreme Court Election - Tuesday April 5th 

 

The Left has decided to wage war against a currently seated Constitutional Supreme Court Wisconsin Justice because of the Union battle.

  

Justice David Prosser has been on the Wisconsin Supreme Court since 1998.  He has a proven record as a 'Rule of Law' Justice and is not a judicial activist.

His opponent has tried to become a Justice in several courts but has been denied.  She is an enviro-whacko and during the last Governor's election supported the 'Green Party' candidate.  You can learn more about HER record here.

Currently the Wisconsin Supreme Court is 4-3 with Conservative Constitutional Justices holding the lead in the Court.  The Left and Unions want   Kloppenburg to win as a referendum on Governor Walker and the Republican majority in the Wisconsin Legislature because they know that Democrats will bring Walker's common sense Union reforms to the Supreme Court.

In the words of Obama 'we won'.  The Left and Unions will do anything and everything to keep failed progressive policies in place in Wisconsin regardless of how the majority voted.
A couple of hours of phone calls is not much when the battle is so important.  Please help and forward this to others who will also help.  Time is of the essence.  The future is at stake - not just for Wisconsin but for the other states that are battling the Left and Unions as well.

Highly radioactive water leaking, neutron beams in Fukushima

Neutron beams have been observed coming from the Fukushima plant. What does this mean? It means fission, which is a nuclear reaction that would take place in overheated rods. The neutron beams could either be leaking out through cracks in the reactor vessels or from fission reactions taking place in the spent-fuel pools.

Also of concern are the anonymous "Fukushima 50" nuclear workers who stayed on to try to avert disaster. Most of them are older workers. They are heroes, no matter what radiation dose they end up absorbing, their willingness to sacrifice their health and safety for that of others is heroic.

Three workers this week stepped into highly radioactive water while attempting to hook up electricity. One of the workers had high-sided boots and the other two had lower-sided boots. Those two ended up in the hospital with possible radiation burns on the skin of their feet/legs where the water soaked into their boots. Most official reports deny that the workers received anything higher than 100 milliseiverts exposure. A TIME blogger reports that the workers' dosage tags showed about 175 millisieverts each. One commenter on that article, "squeaksqueak" states (edited for brevity):

"Press reports suggested that the hospitalized workers had been exposed to doses 10,000 times above normal. But the only reliable information on the dosage received by the workers comes from a TEPCO press release, which states that the trio suffered radiation exposure between 170 millisieverts and 180 millisieverts."

No. I was watching NHK World when the information came out. I wrote it down. But I have to say I just about fell out of my chair when I wrote down the numbers.

The radiation in the water that the workers were exposed to was 3.9 MILLION Bq/cc. It was then stated in the news conference that this is 10,000 times the amount of radiation that would be in water in a reactor that is working normally. This is a very important point. It clearly shows that this water that had leaked out of the reactor had been exposed directly to the reactor fuel, which could only have happened if some of the fuel rods melted and the protective coating oxidized off. Otherwise it could not have been so highly irradiated. The estimated radiation exposure was 173-180 millisieverts between the three men. The surface of the water measured 400 millisieverts.

At the hospital, after decontamination, the workers were still radioactive, and that measurement was around 150 millisieverts.

The most recent report is that the feet of the two men were exposed to 2-6 sieverts (2,000 to 6,000 millisieverts). This is usually a fatal amount of radiation exposure if it is full body exposure, so the fact it was only their feet that were exposed likely makes a huge difference. It will take a couple weeks for some symptoms to appear.

A further explanation of a small point. The 173-180 millisieverts exposure the three men had was 173 for one, 179 for another, and 180 for the third. This is the exposure they had from the radiation in the air in that room. This would have been shown on each person's meter.

Two of the men had additional radiation exposure from the water that leaked into their boots.

Every summer I go to the mammography place for my annual dose of 3 millisieverts.  Add this to the average American dose and I end up with about 5 to 6 millisieverts of exposure each year after age 40.

Kirstie Alley's Cha Cha on DWTS, not bad, I say

I think she looks fine. I can't believe she is 60. She looks like she is in her 40s or late 30s. Her hair looks wonderful, long and youthful. As for being overweight, I don't see what that has to do with her dancing. Back when I danced at the Pasadena Ballroom I noticed that it didn't matter what people looked like so much, they made themselves beautiful through the dance.

There was a scandal this week when so-called comedian George Lopez called her a pig because she is dancing while overweight. He tweeted a non-apology saying he misjudged the joke. Huh. She did not accept the apology, reminding Lopez that his ex-wife wants her kidney back.

This is a plan I can get behind and I urge you to support him in his run for office. He is a fine, constitutional conservative, one of the best I have met in politics.

I don't know what she's trying to do with this, but she has turned herself from a swimsuit model into Meg Ryan. I think her hair is WAY too short in back, almost boyish. But that's just me. Popeater thinks she is shooting for more acting roles like the one she had in Just Go With It. Thing is, she got that role because she looked like (and is) a swimsuit model. Do you ever notice stars that have a good thing going suddenly are overcome with the urge to prove to everybody that they are not defined by their popular roles?

The day the tractor flipped over, survivor's guilt.

My favorite horse,  Buddy.

When I was 12-years-old I worked as a guide at a riding stable in Northern California. Buck Norred's. It was a great job. They were not allowed to pay money to a child, so I worked for riding lessons. I took all the lessons they offered, working my way up to English Jump.

On April 1, 1977 the stables were closed due to heavy rain. We all reported for a short day of work, however, because horses don't stop eating when it rains. We loaded hay onto the tractor and jumped on for a muddy ride to the box canyon where the horses were kept.

There were about 5 teenagers piled onto the body of the tractor already, so my best friend "A" and I climbed onto the hay bales in the scoop. The tractor had barely started rolling toward the down-slope leading to the stream when all the kids down below jumped off.  All of them. I couldn't believe they abandoned us like that. The driver later explained that the steering had locked. "A" and I were alone on the tractor and the kids were yelling for us to "JUMP!" The problem was, the tractor was rolling forward onto the sloping wall of the down-ramp to the stream at about a 45-degree angle. The front-right tire rode up the slope and the tractor began to tilt. "JUMP, JUMP!" they screamed, but I didn't. I had a feeling that if I jumped too soon, I would be beneath the tractor when it turned. If I jumped too late, same problem. I got my feet under myself and crouched, ready. The tractor began to flip and I, being on the right side of the scoop, got the benefit of the torque of the turning motion.  I used the momentum to spring with my legs and landed halfway up the hillside on the opposite bank, scrambling up to the top, then turned to look for my friend but she was gone.

I screamed her name repeatedly and jumped back down to the muddy track where the tractor now lay completely upside-down. There she was underneath it, lying on 4-inch-deep mud and pinned down by the scoop of the tractor resting on top of the hay bales. She said urgently, "get me out of here," her face being squished by the heavy weight.  I tried to lift the heavy metal of the side of the scoop myself but the others had gathered around and led me away so they could help her.

"A" ended up with a few hairline fractures on her vertebrae that took about a month to heal. She was up and walking normally within a few weeks. In retrospect, she was the one on the down-side, the pulling side, as the tractor flipped over. She was sucked underneath it. I was on the up-side, the pushing side, and got an extra boost. I don't know why it happened that way but it did.

The reason I mention this is because something happened yesterday at the synagogue that brought it all back. One of the congregants was in tears because we are at the 1-year anniversary of his son's death. His son died in a kayaking accident in the ocean off of Santa Barbara. Daniel Zembrosky and his friend, both in their mid-twenties, were kayaking in strong winds when the kayak flipped over. They decided to swim for shore. Why did one boy make it and the other did not? I don't know. I was moved to look up Daniel's My Space page. He was a young man with a wonderful sense of humor and a taste for adventure. If any family members ever read this, please accept my deepest condolences. My heart is with you.

Can men experience a "blow-out" post-vasectomy?

I thought I knew a lot about health and reproductive health. How widespread is it that men have pain and disability post-vasectomy? I am not for or against the procedure. I do believe, however, that we should be educated about all aspects of risk if there are risks.

Container vegetable gardening in Southern California

It is time to refresh the garden with summer favorites. The winter garden turned out well. We had red lettuce, Romaine lettuce, Italian parsley and strawberries. The parsley made way for cucumber seedlings:


I replaced the lettuce with a cherry tomato plant. Can you see the little tomato near the bottom of the plant? We already have fruit!


The strawberries are still going strong and got a reprieve:


Also, the Romaine lettuce, as my 11-year-old son's favorite, got transplanted into a flower pot. Hopefully we can get a few more bowls of salad out of them before they bolt into flower.


Is there a way to grow corn in containers? I have the worst luck with corn!

I was relieved to see that someone on Fox News spoke about the horror that Palestinian terrorists brought to an Israeli family at nighttime on the Sabbath. A three-month-old baby girl and other young children and parents brutally butchered. He calls this "great and powerful evil and darkness" and goes on to show the Palestinians handing out candy to celebrate the horrific murders, which he calls "even more disturbing."

My kids and I have an inside joke. Sometimes when somebody asks us if we like something we answer a muffled, "I hate them." Watch the trailer, you'll see what I mean.  Something about this movie hit our funny bone.  I recall watching it with my then-teenage daughter and we were literally weak with laughter, flopping around on the carpeting.

Update: Fox affiliate in Oregon reports that 4 people have been swept out to sea in Crescent City, CA, with one already pronounced dead.

Caltech reports that Japan has moved 8 feet closer to California because of this earthquake.

According to Fox News, reports are coming in that 30 boats and docks in Crescent City, CA have been destroyed by the tsunami. It is approximately 10:30am Pacific Standard Time.

”The harbor has been destroyed,” said Crescent City Councilman Rich Enea in a phone interview at 9:45 a.m. “Thirty-five boats have been crushed and the harbor has major damage. Major damage.”
Del Norte County Sheriff Cmdr. Bill Steven said most of the docks at the harbor are gone. Additionally, a recent surge filled the entire harbor and they are expecting that some of the other waves could send water into the harbor's parking lot, Steven said.

Prayers for Japan with 8.8 earthquake/tsunami

Update: Dr. Lucy Jones from Caltech comments on the Japanese earthquake/tsunami. She says that the good news is that the earthquake was offshore so the buildings did not all collapse. The bad news is that the faultline was 300 to 500 miles long and underwater, creating a tsunami.

8.8 is enormous. (Note, earthquake has been upgraded to 8.9). I know people say Japan has buildings built to withstand earthquakes but sometimes mother nature overpowers our best plans. I hope everybody stays safe. The location is Sendai, Honshu. News reports showed some water rushing through streets and some automobiles submerged. This is being reported as a 13-foot tsunami.

News reports also show smoke coming from a high rise building in Tokyo.

I'm liking this turn of events in Wisconsin

Fun stuff. I was surprised this morning when I read the headline on Fox News that Governor Walker was the "first to blink" and that he offered to meet the unions half-way on the collective bargaining issues. What a downer.

And now this? The senate splits the bill into smaller parts and passes the part that does not require a larger quorum? And this happens to be the part that involved collective bargaining? HA!

How does it feel to be impotent, union thugs?

Your days of impoverishing America are waning. You will cry, whine and holler, but it will happen. Is happening.

Thugs try to intimidate reporter, but it won't change the outcome of today's vote.

How wolves are restoring Yellowstone

Who doesn't like a good nature story. It sounds like the wolves are doing more to restore the ecosystem than expected.

For the past 15 years, the leader of the Gray Wolf Restoration Project Dr Doug Smith and his team have monitored the effects of wolves on Yellowstone.

Thirty-one of the animals were released in 1995 and 1996, and Dr Smith now puts the number at about 100.

Their research suggested that predators not only influence the numbers of plant-eating animals through predation but through a complex series of interactions in the ecosystem, the predators can also restore forests.

Dr Smith has noticed dramatic changes amongst the willow stands that grow in Yellowstone's river valleys.

He said: "When I first came to Yellowstone about 16 years ago the willows here were all eaten by elk.

"But since wolves have been reintroduced we saw the willow come back, before our eyes. A big factor is, very simply, wolves eat elk, so it's connected."

The absence of wolves between 1926 and 1995 coincided with a loss of beaver populations in the park, but since the wolves returned, beavers have been drawn back by the increase in willow.

Now that the beavers are back and building dams, the water table in areas of the park that were suffering from deforestation has begun to rise, restoring populations of water hungry species of tree like willow and aspen.

"The missing piece of the puzzle was the wolf, the top predator," Dr Smith said.

Obamacare = Doctors in jail?

Is this man wrong? Z asks for someone to please prove him wrong, so we can all sleep at night. I pray that this is not happening. If doctors must obtain government approval for all treatment decisions, and will be jailed if they don't follow the government edicts in lock step, then we will have no doctors taking care of us anymore. The few individuals that remain in the profession will be reduced to drones. Technicians. Even physician's assistants will have to change their title to governmental assistants.

I can't believe that Florida Judge Roger Vinson had the gonads to take Obama and Holder to the woodshed over Obamacare. But he did.

These two slippery characters are given 7 days to appeal Vinson's overturning of Obamacare or ELSE.

Vinson berated the Obama administration for asking him to clarify his prior ruling, instead of asking for a stay.  He beat them to the punch and treated their request as a request for a stay, which he granted.  For only seven days.  After that he most certainly will grant a stay against implementation of Obamacare, which is what he meant to do in the first place.  This will, hopefully, force the matter into appeal and stop the Obama Administration's foot-dragging.

Let's see how Obama and Holder skate around this one.

God bless and keep you, Judge Vinson.  You are one of the bravest and most patriotic judges in America today.

Tell people to stop saying Charlie Sheen's family should help him.

I don't believe there is anything Charlie Sheen's family can do to help him. Legally. Am I wrong? People write online that if he is not on drugs then he must be in an acute manic episode. Others cry for his family, such as his father Martin Sheen to help him. At least get Charlie Sheen put away on a 72-hour hold.

I don't believe that is possible even if they wanted to. A person who does not want to be committed cannot be committed unless they are a demonstrable danger to self or others.

Charlie Sheen can lose his job.

Charlie Sheen can lose his kids.

Charlie Sheen can lose his money.

All of this without our control. I'm not sure this is for the best. But it is the state of the laws regarding mental illness in California as far as I know. He is free to spend his money on frivolities until it is gone. He is free to speak gibberish on national television.

His family's hearts must be breaking. Let us not compound their pain by blaming his problems on them.
