Did Obamacare kill the Obama recovery?

By: Conn Carroll | Senior Editorial Writer Follow Him @Conncarroll | 07/21/11 9:44 AM

The Heritage Foundation’s James Sherk has a fascinating new paper out showing that the U.S. economic recovery stalled almost immediately after Obamacare became law. Before Obamacare was passed, private sector job creation had been averaging 67,600 net new jobs a month. After Obamacare passed net private sector job creation fell to 6,400 jobs a month. Sherk identifies some provisions of Obamacare that discourage job creation:
  • Businesses with more than 50 workers will see their costs for health coverage rise—they must purchase more expensive government-approved insurance or pay a penalty;
  • Businesses with fewer than 50 workers have a strong incentive to maintain this size, to avoid these higher costs; and
  • Employers face considerable uncertainty about what constitutes qualifying health coverage and what it will cost. They also do not know what the health care market or their health care costs will look like in four years. This makes planning for the future difficult.
Missing form this list is the $500 billion in new taxes Obamacare also inflicted on the nascent recovery.

Will Hillary rise as Obama admin goes down?

Is Eric Holder going to jail for Project Gunrunner obstruction of justice?

Are Washington Dems and Repubs aligning against Obama and his minions?

Will Hillary primary Obama?

Is the Wiener scandal distracting us from the bad economy and Obama's failed policies, including the active Obamacare trial in which 3 bipartisan judges are sounding quite skeptical of Obamacare?

Will the U.S. of A. remain a constitutional republic?

Inquiring minds want to know....

Thank you, Obama, for changing our nation.

via truegritpatriots
We have changed in so many ways in the past two years.

I remember when Americans would yawn and run in the other direction when somebody brought up the topic of the national debt ceiling. No more. A vast majority of Americans are paying close attention to this issue. And I wager that the voting on this issue will have great sway in the way Americans will vote in 2012. Politicians who decide to sell out our nation's future so they don't have to deal with problems today will feel our wrath. They can laugh all the way to the unemployment line.

I remember when Americans believed that terrorism was caused by a few violent extremists, who misunderstood and perverted the religion of islam. Not so. Islamic moderates, those who are yet un-murdered by their muslim brethren, are the ones who misinterpret the Koran. Mohammed clearly states that war will be made on unbelievers unto the end of time or when islam rules all. We are fooled by taqiya (lying) no more. The 19 hijackers perfectly represented their religion. As much as it would be nice to believe otherwise. We ignore this information at our peril, as the buddhists of Thailand now know. Babies and children beheaded for being buddhist? Par for the course.

I remember when Americans thought that Israel had problems with Palestinians because they had not made enough land deals such as "land for peace". This could not be more wrong. Muslims hate Israelis because they exist. They hate all non-muslims because we exist. Giving more land to them simply weakens our defenses against them. An outcome that they favor, of course. And unwise.

I remember when Americans frowned when entering the voting booth and meekly voted for the lesser of two evils because "that's how politics works". Well no more. We must take this country back in hand. We must re-strengthen the Constitution or we will have no protection from tyranny. Our forefathers gave us a system to protect us. But only if we can keep it.

Thank you, Obama. Your breakneck attack against America, highlighted by Obamacare, an entitlement program that would weigh down an overloaded expense equation and bankrupt this nation quicker than Social Security and Medicare are already doing, woke us out of our slumber. With any luck, we will reverse the destructive course you have set for us.

Thank you, Obama. You offended our friends and cozied up to our enemies. You woke us up to the need to create our own brand of foreign diplomacy, which we do every day on the internet. Our friends know they have friends here, no thanks to you.

Thank you, Obama. You declared September 11th to be a day of national volunteerism or some such nonsense. The good people of America already do a LOT of volunteering, and we don't need you to show us how. And we also don't need you distracting us from a solemn day of remembrance of our dead and the MUSLIMS WHO DID IT.

Obamacare's hidden, unlimited slush fund

Freedomworks is sounding the alarm on an unlimited slush fund they found. I guess whoever wrote Obamacare forgot to study up on the separation of powers and the Constitution.
Under our Constitution, only Congress has the power of the purse.  To formally delegate to the President the power to appropriate funds from the Treasury without stint or limit breaches the separation of powers in fact, if not in form.
In short, Section 1311(a) of PPACA is a dangerous, irresponsible, and arguably unconstitutional delegation of money and power to the Executive Branch.
Regardless of one's opinions about government-run health care, surely all Americans can agree that this slush fund gives the President -- any President -- too much power.
The vote is next week.  To learn more about this bill and related issues, visit our Obamacare Repeal War Room.
Or go straight to our petition page to send an email to your Congressman.

Obamacare = Doctors in jail?

Is this man wrong? Z asks for someone to please prove him wrong, so we can all sleep at night. I pray that this is not happening. If doctors must obtain government approval for all treatment decisions, and will be jailed if they don't follow the government edicts in lock step, then we will have no doctors taking care of us anymore. The few individuals that remain in the profession will be reduced to drones. Technicians. Even physician's assistants will have to change their title to governmental assistants.

Where's Nancy Pelosi and her smug gavel march today!

It has been a long wait to wipe that smug grin off her face. Thank you, Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum for your patriotic service. Thank you Judge Vinson for upholding our great Constitution. I pray that the Supreme Court agrees with you.

Wouldn't it be great if the Democrat party beat itself to smithereens passing horrible legislation that damages America, then the legislation gets thrown out?

They better not issue a "stay" on this ruling. There is no "stay" on our Constitutional rights. If anything a "stay" should be issued against Obamacare and backdated to when it was passed.

74% Docs Intend to Flee Obamacare

The impending draft of American physicians into a communist system of health "care" has the majority of them making other plans. Are you telling me that free men don't want their businesses and professional skills stolen from them?

Thursday, October 28, 2010

Yes, this election will be a referendum on Obamacare.

Some disagree, but of course it is. Obamacare is the crown jewel that Dems stuffed down our throats in their zeal to "fundamentally change America". It is the poison pill that continues to paralyze private industry, ruining the job market. It was the work of ideologues, to do something so destructive during an economic downturn.

We don't want to find ourselves lying helpless in a hospital bed like 37-year-old Jaimie Merrett, while our life support systems are turned off by an indifferent health "care" behemoth.

Why do we have to break the best health care system in the world! People FLY HERE from all over the world for care. We need to throw out all politicians who do not believe in American exceptionalism. Our politicians should be rooting for us, not cutting us off at the knees then laughing about it.

What A Relief

I have been enjoying the respite from the Obama Daily Outrages that had been jammed down our throats for the first 18 months of Obama's presidency. We now possess a legislature that would rather vacate than legislate. Would that they could have vacated their offices just before destroying the greatest health care system in the world. Obama has attempted a fundamental transformation of the United States, and with luck, we shall have it. Only not in the way Obama imagines. My hope is that the conservative resurgence will do Reagan one better. Maybe we can make progress back to the original intent of the constitution. Wouldn't it be great if we could end all declared states of emergency so that the president would stop legislating via executive orders? I hope we can defund and defang Obamacare before more hospitals go under.

I hope the dems don't damage their party any further by lame duck shenanigans. Jamming more hateful legislation down our throats will not win them elections. Not now, and not anytime soon. Maybe not until a new generation of youngsters is re-educated.

Are Virginia Defense Cuts Payback For Obamacare Lawsuit?

pic via papapundits
So odd. It did seem to come right out of the blue when I read about the closure of the Joint Forces Command in Virginia. Hey, wasn't it Obama who warned, "don't think we're not keeping score"? Yeah, I think he is. The cuts in jobs will total about 10,000 if you include defense contracts. And it was just about a week ago that a federal judge in Virginia declined to throw out the Obamacare lawsuit. Politics sure is a contact sport. Should someone tell Obama that we're keeping score, too? And that we all plan to vote in NOvember?

I Think This Woman Is Kidding....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRgB2eeHZEw
This video actually makes me laugh. "I luuuuuv Umeriker." I think she is joking. She has other videos up where she exaggerates her Ghetto-ness to make a point. She must be against Obamacare. But some folks on her You Tube page must think she is serious about loving Obamacare because they are leaving racist, nasty comments. Anyway, it is a sad commentary.

This. Must. Not. Stand.

Ed Feulner at Heritage dot org has something to say about Obamacare. These are the modern Intolerable Acts. I hope this can be fast tracked to the Supreme Court so we can get some resolution on these issues.

For You Number Crunchers: Obamacare In All Its Ugliness

The Republican Conference has compiled a list of important numbers relevant to Democrats’ Senate bill combined with the proposed reconciliation bill. Check it out here:

$1.2 trillion: The total cost of the bill between 2010 and 2020 (though the real costs do not start until 2014), including $940 billion in coverage subsidies, $144.2 billion in additional mandatory spending, $70 billion in discretionary spending in the Senate bill, and $41.6 billion in unrelated education spending.

$208 billion: The cost of a ten year patch for the Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) to prevent reduction in Medicare physician payments. This cost is hidden because it was included in the earlier Democrat bill, but was dropped to provide a better cost estimate. It is expected to move separately and would bring the true cost of the takeover to $1.4 trillion.

$569.2 billion: Tax increases in the legislation, including $48.9 billion in new tax increases in the reconciliation bill alone.

$52 billion: The amount of new taxes on employers who cannot afford to pay their employees health care, imposed at a time when unemployment is 9.7 percent.

12: The number of new tax increases in the bill that violate President Obama’s pledge that, “Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase.”

46%: The percentage of families making less than $66,150 who will be forced to pay the individual mandate tax.

16,500: The estimated number of IRS auditors, agents and other employees that may be needed to collect the hundreds of billions in new taxes levied on the American people.

$20 billion: The estimated amount of money that the IRS and HHS will need for the cost of additional regulations, bureaucracy, and red tape over the next ten years. This spending is not included in CBO’s cost estimate of H.R. 4872.

$53 billion: The amount of revenue this bill raids from Social Security to appear as if it actually reduces the deficit.

$202.3 billion: The amount of money cut from the Medicare Advantage program for seniors to help offset the costs of a new entitlement.

$436 billion: The amount of federal subsidies in the bill that will go directly to insurance companies to provide health care in the exchange.

1 out of 22: The number of times the Senate has not somehow amended a reconciliation bill passed by the House, and thus required further House action.

63%: The percentage of physicians surveyed who feel that health reform is needed, but are opposed to this sweeping overhaul legislation.

$9 billion: The amount that the Ways and Means Committee estimated Medicare would spend annually after 25 years when it was passed in 1965. In reality, Medicare spent $67 billion in 1990, or seven times the initial cost estimate.

$1.55 trillion: The projected FY 2010 deficit—11 times the ten year “savings” Democrats claim the bill will produce by spending more than $1 trillion for this government takeover of health care.

Pelosi Backs Out of Deal With Stupak?

Pray that the vote falls flat on Sunday. For whatever reason. We need healthcare reform. But not like this...

By all accounts Bart Stupak has been pushing for an ironclad guarantee that the bill would only pass on the condition that his amendment is included. Kathryn Lopez hears what I hear:

Prospects for a Stupak deal may be collapsing. (Which, yes, could mean prospects for a vote tomorrow are collapsing. Or it could mean the White House/Pelosi twisted enough arms.)

More:

Stupak swingers at the moment appear to be: Kaptur of Ohio, Berry of Arkansas, Cueller of Texas, and Rahall of West Virginia.

If you live in any one of these districts, you might want to buck your representative up.

UPDATE: With #s:

Berry (202) 225-4076

Cueller 202-225-1640

Kaptur(202) 225-4146

Rahall (202) 225-3452

Cramer Says Obamacare Will Topple The Stock Market

Folks won't want to start new businesses faced with new taxes of $12,000 per year for healthcare. And everybody knows small business is what provides American jobs. What is worse, Obama said yesterday that he would move quickly on amnesty for illegal aliens after passage of Obamacare. This makes horrifying sense, because he and the Dems are going to need an awful lot of new voters in a hurry after offending their voting base by passing this destructive legislation. The problem is, the illegals would all be covered under Obamacare, increasing costs dramatically. I bet the Congressional Budget Office wasn't given THOSE numbers!

A Cramdown For A Cramdown

I was listening to the radio this morning, and a liberal caller said that Bush forced Iraq down everybody's throats, so it is only fair to cram Obamacare down the throats of the American public. He went on to say that "bipartisanship is overrated".

Be Of Good Cheer-It WON'T Pass

The Whip Count as reported by The Hill blog is heartening. If all congressional Republicans vote NO on the Obamacare bill, the maximum Democrats that can vote NO on the bill are 37 in order for the bill to pass by 216 votes. The number of NO votes by Dems ALREADY equals 37 as of today. And there are 70 undecideds. All we need is for ONE more Dem to vote NO and Obamacare is dead. I'm beginning to believe that this bill will go down in flames. As it should. It is really an awful bill. How anybody could think that this overreach could make good law for America is beyond my grasp.

Dems should start over, taking each issue separately. Preexisting conditions? PASSED! Insurance portability? PASSED! Tort reform? Ok, I'm dreaming here. Dems need to boot the trial lawyers out of bed before that can happen....

Slaughter Strategy Explained

"This is how you overthrow the U.S. Government."
I was thinking about this today. The term "Progressive" means a person who is liberal and wants to change the American Political system to socialism or communism without frank, open war, so the "progress" must be done in small steps so the American People don't notice. Progressivism has been very successful in America. Liberal Progressives have worked their way into controlling schools/curricula, Hollywood, and the formerly free press. But since Obama was elected, politics have been anything but progressive. They have become Aggressive. Frank, open war against the Constitution such as government takeovers of the banking and auto industry, the threatened use of reconciliation to enact sweeping government takeover of health care, and odd new rules for enacting legislation such as the Slaughter Rule. Both houses of congress need to vote and pass the same piece of legislation before the President can sign it? Remember School House Rock? Fuggeddaboutit!

I saw this over at Red State today and it sums up this past year nicely:

Let’s recap the last year of the Democrats’ Health Care Takeover adventure. Why? Because it was fun, and we won:

  • With 60% majorities in both House and Senate, and flush from victories on Porkulus and Cap-and-Trade, Obama and the media tried selling America on their signature issue - government health care takeover — with glib lies, fuzzy math, and blaming ‘evil’ insurance companies.
  • FAIL – it smelled like a government takeover.
  • They shut Republicans and their ideas out of all discussions, in order to shut down dissent.
  • FAIL – America noticed, and so came the August recess fiasco. So also came 99.54% party discipline, as only Joe Cao (from a hyper-blue district) voted with the Democrats, to date.
  • They skipped, dodged, and staged astroturfed townhalls.
  • FAIL – Twitter. Internet. Americans found and crashed the meetings anyway.
  • They sent their SIEU and ACORN thugs to intimidate ordinary outraged Americans.
  • FAIL – People took their beatings. And brought video cameras.
  • Obama and the media decided they had not made themselves clear. So, more speeches, ABC specials, and more blaming of insurance companies. And doctors.
  • FAIL – America actually HAD heard it right the first time. and polls really started to look nasty.
  • They accused Republicans of just being obstructionists, having no alternative plans themselves.
  • FAIL — Republicans were obstructing with the blessing of their constituents, and their always existing plans sounded a whole lot like cost-lowering free-market ideas. [correction, h/t Jeff Emanuel - Repubs lacked numbers to actually obstruct anything, which the press unerringly failed to ever point out]
  • Their own members began to revolt, so they were bribed and blackmailed
  • FAIL – Americans reacted very badly to the Chicago way.
  • They passed the Senate version on Dec 24 while America traveled and thought of loved ones.

At this point they really thought they had won this thing. Unfortunately for them, Americans are not like Russians, programmed to serve silently and cower in fear of their government.

It was just getting interesting.

  • FAIL – America noticed anyway. McDonnell and Christie smoked VA and NJ governor elections. Scott Brown campaigned as “Mister 41″, and easily won the “Do it for Teddy” seat in deep-blue MA.
  • They plotted to delay the seating of Scott Brown in order to get a bill passed.
  • FAIL – once that was made public, they denied they would have considered such a dastardly thing.
  • With America dead set against it……more speeches. And publicly dressing down the Supreme Court.
  • FAIL – again, America already got the message, polls sunk even further, and wobbling Democrats were catching bloody hell from their constituents.
  • With 60 out of the question and 216 shaky at best, they decided to break congressional rules and jam the bill through by “reconciliation”.
  • FAIL – the shaky 216 started to look more like 200.
  • With no more hopes of even passing the House, now they propose the Slaughter Rule — to declare the Senate bill passed without a vote.
  • FAIL – just wait and see.

Update: the reconciliation bill is posted online, complete with a government takeover of the student loan industry, "green schools" and the PUBLIC OPTION. But don't worry. There isn't anything to see here. Move along, move along...

Obama's Sick Obsession-WA Times Editorial (w permission)

It is neat that the Washington Times grants permission to reprint articles in their entirety. I just need to include their google ads, which is fine. I think they capture the essence of Obama's unhealthy obsession with healthcare destruction. He wants a legacy which he thinks will be good. He is wrong. His legacy of destruction will start immediately. Most Americans know that, but Obama and his minions will not listen, the core of taxation without representation. Just say no to tyranny, I always say....

EDITORIAL: Obama's sick obsession

By THE WASHINGTON TIMES

Nationalized health care is the progressives' Golden Fleece. It is their obsession, the ultimate prize that was denied to previous administrations but is closer than it ever has been. As the ability of government to take over the health care system draws tantalizingly near, the president and leaders of the majority party have become infected with a kind of mania. President Obama and Democratic congressional leaders seem determined to ram through a severely flawed piece of legislation by any means necessary, heedless of the desires of the American people or the negative impact on the system they mistakenly say needs to be saved.

A large majority of Americans are satisfied with their current health care plans, though most also think the system could be improved. Yet proponents of the Democrats' radical health care overhaul brazenly claim the system is irretrievably broken and only radical surgery will save it. According to the latest Gallup poll numbers, less than a fifth of even those who favor health reform agree with that position. The majority of Americans are divided between those who want a scaled-back health care measure and those who want the current project dropped entirely. If any system is broken, it is the legislative process.

Long-time Democratic pollsters Patrick H. Caddell and Douglas E. Schoen warned last week that "the battle for public opinion has been lost" on heath care. Democrats have backed themselves into a corner. If the bill fails, they suffer a defeat. But if they win, they also lose because Democrats "will face a far greater calamitous reaction" in November. "Wishing, praying or pretending will not change these outcomes," they caution.

But the glittering prize is too near for such sage counsel. The liberal leadership is infused with a sense of mission. They are the midwives to history, shepherding landmark legislation that will revise the American social contract and usher in a new era, or some such foolishness. All they need to do is pass the bill, and the poor, frightened, deluded American people will see the wisdom of their decisions. Hence House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's memorable (and revealing) comment, "We have to pass the [health care] bill so that you can find out what is in it." In her imagination, once the bill is signed, voters won't remember the struggle, just the glow of the accomplishment. Rip off the bandage; you'll feel better after the sting.

The Democrats' headlong drive is leading to bouts of political insanity, such as the aptly named Slaughter rule, which potentially could allow the House of Representatives to "deem" the health bill passed without a final vote. That the Democratic leadership would consider resorting to such a stunt betrays a high degree of contempt for the electorate, whom they presumably think will not remember or care that their representatives would not go on the record on such a major piece of legislation.

Disaffected voters, however, will recognize cowardice for what it is. Add to this the Louisiana Purchase, the Cornhusker Kickback, the backroom dealing, special-interest loopholes and fundamental unsoundness of placing government at the center of the health care system, and November will be a slaughter indeed.
