Whiny Lament: Liberals Don't Like Obama Either

Sometimes I take a walk on the wild side, so you don't have to. There was some information in this rant that was new to me. I didn't know that Sotomayor and Kagan are viewed by the left as "moderates at best". It will be interesting to see how the disappointed progressives vote in November. If they vote at all, that is.

Instead, we have a de facto minority government, organized and instituted, operated with oily efficiency by the Republicans in the Senate, combined with the Obama administration's capitulation thinly disguised as a bipartisan attempt. Those in charge at the White House and in the Democratic Party ought to be asking: Who voted for that? And: Who will vote for that... again? What is representative democracy if the representatives won't follow the will of the majority who voted for them?

Instead of taking their mandate seriously - instead of being "the ones we were waiting for" - this Democratic Party and this Democratic President have simply failed to lead. The never-ending wars continue unabated. The Supreme Court gets more women, but they are moderates at best, not progressives. Gitmo is still open. Constitutional abuses of civil liberties under Bush/Cheney have become the policy of the Obama administration. These failures plus the meager, insufficient and less than promised legislative results are just not enough for those who didn't vote Democratic for 64 years -but did vote for Obama - to do it anytime soon again. The protests may come from the President's spokesman, even from Obama himself, but the sad fact remains - we have not seen "Change We Can Believe In" and the current crop of Democrats are certainly not the ones we've been waiting for.
More here.

Kind of laughable to blame the Republicans in the Senate. What a joke. Poor little thing can't live unless they have a super majority.

Obama Plays Basketball While Oil Spills Into The Gulf

Obama took a break from rebuking BP to shoot some hoops this Sunday morning.

Commenter DocScience at Gateway Pundit had the best spin on the story:

Come on people, Obama’s golf game is off, he shoots b-ball like a white guy, and throws baseballs like a girl.

This guy REALLY needs to spend a lot of time improving his sports performance. Cut him some slack.

I mean, is America safer when Obama is making policy decisions or shooting hoops? Really.

Obama's Sick Obsession-WA Times Editorial (w permission)

It is neat that the Washington Times grants permission to reprint articles in their entirety. I just need to include their google ads, which is fine. I think they capture the essence of Obama's unhealthy obsession with healthcare destruction. He wants a legacy which he thinks will be good. He is wrong. His legacy of destruction will start immediately. Most Americans know that, but Obama and his minions will not listen, the core of taxation without representation. Just say no to tyranny, I always say....

EDITORIAL: Obama's sick obsession

By THE WASHINGTON TIMES

Nationalized health care is the progressives' Golden Fleece. It is their obsession, the ultimate prize that was denied to previous administrations but is closer than it ever has been. As the ability of government to take over the health care system draws tantalizingly near, the president and leaders of the majority party have become infected with a kind of mania. President Obama and Democratic congressional leaders seem determined to ram through a severely flawed piece of legislation by any means necessary, heedless of the desires of the American people or the negative impact on the system they mistakenly say needs to be saved.

A large majority of Americans are satisfied with their current health care plans, though most also think the system could be improved. Yet proponents of the Democrats' radical health care overhaul brazenly claim the system is irretrievably broken and only radical surgery will save it. According to the latest Gallup poll numbers, less than a fifth of even those who favor health reform agree with that position. The majority of Americans are divided between those who want a scaled-back health care measure and those who want the current project dropped entirely. If any system is broken, it is the legislative process.

Long-time Democratic pollsters Patrick H. Caddell and Douglas E. Schoen warned last week that "the battle for public opinion has been lost" on heath care. Democrats have backed themselves into a corner. If the bill fails, they suffer a defeat. But if they win, they also lose because Democrats "will face a far greater calamitous reaction" in November. "Wishing, praying or pretending will not change these outcomes," they caution.

But the glittering prize is too near for such sage counsel. The liberal leadership is infused with a sense of mission. They are the midwives to history, shepherding landmark legislation that will revise the American social contract and usher in a new era, or some such foolishness. All they need to do is pass the bill, and the poor, frightened, deluded American people will see the wisdom of their decisions. Hence House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's memorable (and revealing) comment, "We have to pass the [health care] bill so that you can find out what is in it." In her imagination, once the bill is signed, voters won't remember the struggle, just the glow of the accomplishment. Rip off the bandage; you'll feel better after the sting.

The Democrats' headlong drive is leading to bouts of political insanity, such as the aptly named Slaughter rule, which potentially could allow the House of Representatives to "deem" the health bill passed without a final vote. That the Democratic leadership would consider resorting to such a stunt betrays a high degree of contempt for the electorate, whom they presumably think will not remember or care that their representatives would not go on the record on such a major piece of legislation.

Disaffected voters, however, will recognize cowardice for what it is. Add to this the Louisiana Purchase, the Cornhusker Kickback, the backroom dealing, special-interest loopholes and fundamental unsoundness of placing government at the center of the health care system, and November will be a slaughter indeed.

Is Obama Organizing in Our High Schools?

An Atlas reader, Chuck, has a student in the eleventh grade in an Ohio High School. Her government class passed out this propaganda recruiting paper so students could sign up as interns for Obama's Organizing for America (OFA is the former mybarackobama.com site.)

Obama is using our public school system to recruit for his Alinsky-inspired private army. Organizing for America is (and I quote) recruiting in our high schools to "build on the movement that elected President Obama by empowering students across the country to help us bring about our agenda" ............of national socialism.

The Ohio High School is Perry Local in Massillon, Ohio.

This is incredible. And evil. Suffer the little children -- enlisted like SS youth. This is no accident. Obama is poisoning our public school system. He acts as if it's his own private breeding farm. Once again academic learning and achievement is hopelessly abandoned, and supplanted by radical leftist activism from the leftwing Alinsky indoctrinators in the perverse public school system.

Children must be advised to expose this ugly propaganda. Children must tell their parents how they are being used and manipulated. Parents, warn your kids. Better yet, home school.

This internship program is geared towards the 2010 elections. Using our kids as their goons. Can you imagine if the Republicans attempted such a fascist stunt?

More here at Atlas Shrugs. Go to the Atlas Shrugs website and see copies of the multi-page handout and questionnaire that was given to the high school students. Is this what things have come to? Obama's radicalism has caused adult Americans to turn away so now Obama goes after our teenagers? What is next.

Liberal Billionaire Regrets Voting For Obama

Obama punted on the economy and reversed the fortunes of the Democrats in 365 days.
He’s misjudged the character of the country in his whole approach. There’s the saying, “It’s the economy, stupid.” He didn’t get it. He was determined somehow or other to adopt a whole new agenda. He didn’t address the main issue.
This health-care plan is going to be a fiscal disaster for the country. Most of the country wanted to deal with costs, not expansion of coverage. This is going to raise costs dramatically.
In the campaign, he said he would change politics as usual. He did change them. It’s now worse than it was. I’ve now seen the kind of buying off of politicians that I’ve never seen before. It’s politically corrupt and it’s starting at the top. It’s revolting.
Five states got deals on health care—one of them was Harry Reid’s. It is disgusting, just disgusting. I’ve never seen anything like it. The unions just got them to drop the tax on Cadillac plans in the health-care bill. It was pure union politics. They just went along with it. It’s a bizarre form of political corruption. It’s bribery. I suppose they could say, that’s the system. He was supposed to change it or try to change it.
Even that is not the worst part. He could have said, “I know. I promised these things, but let me try to do them one at a time.” You want to deal with health care? Fine. Issue No. 1 with health care was the cost. You know I think it was 37 percent or 33 who were worried about coverage. Fine, I wrote an editorial to this effect. Focus on cost-containment first. But he’s trying to boil the ocean, trying to do too much. This is not leadership.

The plates are Pennsylvania. I also saw another car the same day on Long Island with stickers that said "Don't blame me. I voted for Palin."

A hopeful sign of the times. This comes from my blogger buddy in New York, Canubeapartofmylife. You know what they say. "If I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere...."

Closing GITMO Makes Illinois a Target

Christmas Day Jihad bomber. Two days after I and my 2-year-old boy flew home from Chicago. There, but for the grace of God, go all of us. I am thankful for the brave young man on that plane who vaulted over seats and tackled the bomber, disarming him. But wait. This bomber was trained by ex-GITMO detainees? Might this information give pause to Obama Administration plans to close GITMO? It would appear not.

A panel of lawmakers voted [yesterday] in favor of letting Gov. Pat Quinn close a little-used prison in northwestern Illinois so the Obama administration can use it to hold terrorism suspects now held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

The 7-4 vote by the Illinois Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability was largely on party lines, with Democrats supporting the sale of the Thomson Correctional Center to the federal government and all but two Republicans opposed.
More here.

So Obama and his extreme leftist followers can pat themselves on the back for a job well done. Hey, at least GITMO will be closed, right? That HAS to be a good thing, right?

Ironically, however, most of the roughly 210 detainees still held at Guantánamo are not in supermax-type facilities at all. At least 70 percent live in communal settings like Camp 4. They can play soccer, basketball, or foosball; exercise on elliptical equipment; and consort with their fellow detainees for up to 20 hours per day in the outdoor recreation area. They can take art classes or learn English. And while tensions flare every now and again, life in Camp 4 is generally calm. Camp officials prefer that the detainees live in this type of setting. It’s easier on the guards and everyone else involved. As the commander of Camp 4 explains, the detainees have to “do something really bad” to get locked up in one of the more secure facilities....

Obama is closing Guantanamo Bay for appearances alone — it will do nothing to bolster our national security, and in fact is likely to weaken our national security — and is, ironically, sending them to a more inhumane prison. And while Obama claims that no one has ever escaped from a supermax prison, it shouldn’t alleviate any fears whatsoever. First, just because no one has ever escaped before doesn’t mean that no one ever will. Second, a supermax prison is vulnerable to attack (potentially leading to inmates escaping) in ways that Gitmo is not. It’s known that Al Qaeda has sleeper cells all over the country. What happens if Al Qaeda calls on one of those sleeper cells to attack the Illinois prison where these jihadists are housed? Obama’s plan is to take terrorists who want to kill us and plunk them right down in the middle of the United States and basically pray that they never escape. He wants to do this to pacify liberals who are outraged over living conditions at Gitmo, but the living conditions of the supermax prison they’ll be in are far crueler than the ones at Gitmo. It’s basically an epic FAIL on Obama’s part on every possible level.
More here.

By the way, I looked on the map to see the location of Thompson, Illinois. It is so far up in the northwest corner of Illinois, it is almost in Dubuque, Iowa.

UPDATE: Looks like some GITMO terrorists might be gearing up to file a lawsuit to stay in Sunny Guantanamo. For some reason the lockdown at Super Max doesn't appeal to them.
