Obama Tells Truth to Troops in South Korea

Obama spoke from the heart to our men in uniform:

"You guys make a pretty good photo op," the president said.

Standing on a riser wearing a blue suit and red tie, with a cluster of troops and a large American flag behind him, Obama expressed "the gratitude of the American public" and said his meetings in four countries over eight days in Asia will help deliver a "safer, more prosperous world for all of us."

He got a huge cheer when he told them he was increasing military pay. "That's what you call an applause line," he said, before boarding his jet and taking off at 4:11 p.m.

He said these things to troops at Osan Air Base in South Korea before boarding Air Force One after his trip to Asia this past week. This, after aides explained that any decision on troop levels in Afghanistan would not be coming before Thanksgiving.

Chicago Ordered Not to Run Anti-Olympics Story

The Chicago Olympic Committee told Fox that their report would hurt Chicago's chance to be awarded the games. They were told not to re broadcast after the story aired once, according to Drudge.

I live in Chicago—Fox News is leading their News tonight and last night with a film of an Honor Roll Student being beaten to death by Chicago Gang members on his way home from school and in front of a Youth Community Center. Obama open to newspaper bailout bill

The president said he is "happy to look at" bills before Congress that would give struggling news organizations tax breaks if they were to restructure as nonprofit businesses.

Hold it right there. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Obama, who snubs Fox News and EVERYONE who doesn't walk lock-step with his policies, wants to SUBSIDIZE the nation's failing left wing newspapers? There has GOT to be a law!

"I haven't seen detailed proposals yet, but I'll be happy to look at them," Obama told the editors of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Toledo Blade in an interview.

Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) has introduced S. 673, the so-called "Newspaper Revitalization Act," that would give outlets tax deals if they were to restructure as 501(c)(3) corporations. That bill has so far attracted one cosponsor, Cardin's Maryland colleague Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D).

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs had played down the possibility of government assistance for news organizations, which have been hit by an economic downturn and dwindling ad revenue.

In early May, Gibbs said that while he hadn't asked the president specifically about bailout options for newspapers, "I don't know what, in all honesty, government can do about it."

Obama said that good journalism is "critical to the health of our democracy," but expressed concern toward growing tends in reporting -- especially on political blogs, from which a groundswell of support for his campaign emerged during the presidential election.

"I am concerned that if the direction of the news is all blogosphere, all opinions, with no serious fact-checking, no serious attempts to put stories in context, that what you will end up getting is people shouting at each other across the void but not a lot of mutual understanding," he said.

White House = Lobbyist Organization?

So the White House used a private company, Govdelivery, to distribute the Axelrod emails. And they paid for this spamming with taxpayer funds. The White House insists that Govdelivery was not involved in the "aggregation" only the distribution of the emails. OK. So who did the aggregation, then. Who are they and how were they paid.

Govdelivery sent hundreds of e-mails from senior adviser David Axelrod asking supporters to help rebut criticism of Obama's health care plan circulating on the Internet. It also sent e-mails highlighting Obama's speech to the Muslim world in Cairo and the announcement of Sonia Sotomayor as a Supreme Court nominee.

Ok all of you Libs out there....notice how this story leaks out on a Saturday so that the coverage is very low...and no one is home on the weekend to even hear about it. At first the White House knew nothing. Then we find out they used TAXPAYER MONEY to promote his communist agenda! All Americans with half of a brain ought to be outraged!!!!!

I want to know where the class-action lawsuits are regarding both the use of taxpayer dollars to support Obama's continuing campaign activities (that have NOTHING to do with governing and should NOT be supported by tax dollars) and the flag@whitehouse.gov website/email atrocity? It sure is great that the "snitch" line into the White House has been dismantled. I am glad to see that the ACLU weighed in against it. Whew. I had feared they were too far gone in the tank for Obama to pay any attention to his totalitarian escapades.

The Axelrod emails are another topic entirely. I first noticed these when reading the blogs in early June. On June 4, 2009 I saw that a number of my fellow bloggers were rattled to find emails from White House Chief Advisor David Axelrod in their inbox. Red at Caught Him With a Corndog dissected her email thoroughly in a blog post here. This was one about the speech Obama gave in Cairo, Egypt. Red was "spammed" again on July 23, 2009 by David Axelrod here, about health care. Here another blogger complains of receiving the second Axelrod email in a week on August 14, 2009. And here is another. I noticed that some of the bloggers involved had email links displayed on their blogger profile pages. Could in be possible that the White House sought out opposition bloggers to target with an email campaign? Could it be that the program expanded until it encompassed Major Garrett at Fox News? (BIG MISTAKE).

Thank Goodness the CBO Works on Saturday

Hat Tip Legal Insurrection. "The Congressional Budget Office once again has poked a massive hole in the Democratic health care "reform" bubble, in a report issued today.

One of the key elements of the Democratic proposals is to hand over the power to make cost cuts to an unelected, unimpeachable council similar to MedPAC. By empowering such an insular entity to make decisions over which health care procedures and medicines are cost-effective, we will have surrendered enormous freedom over personal health care. If a procedure or medication is not approved by this entity, it will not be economically viable for the provider to bring it to market, so it will not be available even if you were willing to pay out of pocket.

Putting aside our freedom, the CBO has come out with an analysis (appearing in full below) which shows that handing over health care decisions to an entity such as MedPAC will not save any substantial sums over the next decade, even as the cost of health care "reform" escalates. As related at The Politico:

For the second time this month, congressional budget analysts have dealt a blow to the Democrat's health reform efforts, this time by saying a plan touted by the White House as crucial to paying for the bill would actually save almost no money over 10 years.

A key House chairman and moderate House Democrats on Tuesday agreed to a White House-backed proposal that would give an outside panel the power to make cuts to government-financed health care programs. White House budget director Peter Orszag declared the plan "probably the most important piece that can be added" to the House's health care reform legislation.

But on Saturday, the Congressional Budget Office said the proposal to give an independent panel the power to keep Medicare spending in check would only save
about $2 billion over 10 years- a drop in the bucket compared to the bill's $1 trillion price tag.

What a pathetic joke the Democratic legislative effort has become. Loss of freedom and no meaningful cost savings. The opposite of "you get what you pay for."

As Rahm Emanuel and Henry Waxman push to have a vote next week, it is clear that neither the Congress nor the White House has any clue as to the consequences of what they are proposing (if they even have read it). All the more reason we need to see the bill, debate it, and let our representatives know how we feel before they vote.

So give double thanks this weekend. First, for the CBO not giving in to political pressure. And second, for the fact that the CBO works on Saturdays."

Save Me From Government Health-Destruction

I didn't watch the ABC health-destruction extravaganza last night. I don't know where ABC is on my program lineup. However, I hear that there was a chink in Obama's armor. Obama admitted that he would not subject his own family to the care rationing and denial that he wants to foist on the rest of us.

Dr. Orrin Devinsky, a neurologist and researcher at the New York University Langone Medical Center, said that elites often propose health care solutions that limit options for the general public, secure in the knowledge that if they or their loves ones get sick, they will be able to afford the best care available, even if it's not provided by insurance.

Devinsky asked the president pointedly if he would be willing to promise that he wouldn't seek such extraordinary help for his wife or daughters if they became sick and the public plan he's proposing limited the tests or treatment they can get.

The president refused to make such a pledge, though he allowed that if "it's my family member, if it's my wife, if it's my children, if it's my grandmother, I always want them to get the very best care.

This Burns Me Up

Obama says that the FEDERAL DEFICIT is caused by health care. Ya. Crisis, crisis! And the solution happens to be whatever is at the top of Obama's agenda at the time. Nice try, BOZO. Then he goes on to talk about Medicare and Medicaid growing at an unaffordable rate. And his solution is to SPEND MORE MONEY COVERING MORE AMERICANS. This is the most bass-ackwards reasoning I have ever heard!

President Obama blamed health care costs for the mounting federal deficit, saying Tuesday the country will spend $1 out of every $5 on health care within the next 10 years if the government does not mandate reform.

Describing the need to control costs as the administration's "top priority," the president said health costs as the "primary driver" of the federal deficit.

"The U.S. government is not going to be able to afford Medicare and Medicaid on its current trajectory," Obama told reporters during his fourth solo news conference Tuesday. "The notion that we can somehow keep on doing what we're doing and that's somehow OK, that's just not true."
