Penn and Teller Explain Obanomics

OK, so I was reading over at FireDogLake...
Yikes. Paranoid much? Evidence? Location? Memos? Anything?
And they also said that of course the One
OK. Rationalization and excuses. Check.
And they said that although there was bussing, all the people on the busses had to pay their own fare, which was $45, and that this proves that the attendees are not astroturf.
Hmmm. I'm still suspicious. I saw a picture that shows a bunch of them wearing the same colored t-shirts, and that smacks of an odd level of organization for a so-called grassroots event.
Commenter Kittygalore castigated Obama for not taking over the banking system in early 2009 when he had the chance, or at least SOME banks, and also for not ramming through healthcare before the August 2009 recess, which allowed the townhall phenomenon to flourish, which caused all sorts of "depraved" ideas to be introduced into healthcare, basically ruining the
I've gotta tell you. If this is what it would take to make these people happy, I'm tickled PINK to see them disappointed. I hope they have many more disappointments coming. It is not about rubbing their progressive noses in their failure, it is about preserving free America and capitalism, the driving engine of economic and real freedom. The person who is not economically free is a slave. Money equals work/time/effort. When that is stolen by the state through punishing taxes, the person is effectively enslaved. I'm sorry that the progressives feel that the hard work of others belongs to them. We already have a progressive tax system. It is not punishing enough to those rich people to keep the leftists happy, and that is too bad. They will have to go to bed with envy eating up their hearts, I guess. Someday perhaps they will learn that happiness comes from within. Contentment is the key. Thou shalt not covet, and things of that sort.
And last but not least, fpfan44 said:

Our Modern Depression: Unemployment at 22%
Raghavan Mayur, president at TechnoMetrica Market Intelligence, follows unemployment data closely. So, when his survey for May revealed that 28% of the 1,000-odd households surveyed reported that at least one member was looking for a full-time job, he was flummoxed.See full article from DailyFinance: http://srph.it/bjW9Zv
"Our numbers are always very accurate, so I was surprised at the discrepancy with the government's numbers," says Mayur, whose firm owns the TIPP polling unit, a polling partner for Investors' Business Daily and Christian Science Monitor. After all, the headline number shows the U.S. unemployment rate today is 9.5%, with a total of 14.6 million jobless people.
However, Mayur's polls continued to find much worse figures. The June poll turned up 27.8% of households with at least one member who's unemployed and looking for a job, while the latest poll conducted in the second week of July showed 28.6% in that situation. That translates to an unemployment rate of over 22%, says Mayur, who has started questioning the accuracy of the Labor Department's jobless numbers.

The Road To Serfdom
60% of Americans receive more from the Federal Government than they put in. We are very close to the tipping point that leads our country to serfdom. There are 5 more videos in this 6-part series and they can be found at Nearly Nobody's News. 70% of Americans believe in the free market system, and 30% believe in Socialism. That 30% are working hard to change the culture of America. Stossel asks Congressman Paul Ryan a good question. How, if he is talking about the Constitution now, can he explain that he voted for TARP and the auto bailouts.

Socialism Viewed Positively by 36% of Americans-Gallup
PRINCETON, NJ -- More than one-third of Americans (36%) have a positive image of "socialism," while 58% have a negative image. Views differ by party and ideology, with a majority of Democrats and liberals saying they have a positive view of socialism, compared to a minority of Republicans and conservatives.
Oh dear. This explains a lot. No wonder we are locked in a battle for control of our country. The parasites have taken over. But we can beat them back of we band together. American small business should NOT be treated like a host organism. Cynical socialists win supporters by whipping up class envy. They forget that the poor do not provide jobs.
I also view this as a failure of our educational system. The socialists have made deep inroads into American society.

POS BO's SOTU: WTH?
I don't even know where to begin to describe my reaction to last night's SOTU (full text, video). Here's what he said, in a nutshell: Nothing has changed, I still don't get it, and I intend to carry on as before. The second he said that the American people are thinking, in response to all his spending, is "what's in it for me?" I knew, beyond any shadow of any doubt, that he doesn't get it. The question is not what can I get from the government, but what can we do for our country. The government is not the country; its job is not to provide for its citizens anything except opportunity, freedom, and protection. Patriots know this.Read more here.
When BO evokes the Constitution and/or American values, he will, in his next breath, undermine the Constitution and/or American values. He does this in almost every speech (this is one reason that I recommend reading the text of his speeches rather than watching him read them from the phalanx of teleprompters--though, to be honest, he's not as "magical" or "inspiring" as he once was, so it's becoming less important to read the words). He began his speech last night like any good high school student: he placed the speech itself in a historic (and constitutional) context. He then went on not to talk about the state of the union but of the state of his own crumbling presidency and what else he's going to do to destroy our constitutional republic.
When BO talks about solutions, they are always (and I mean always) ways to grow government, ways to empower government. Empowering the government means restricting the individual, the people. It can mean nothing else. When BO talks about "what is right," it is always about what the government thinks is right, what the government will impose on the people, regardless of what we want or of our constitutional freedoms. Clearly out of his mind, BO intends to plow ahead with his radical progressive agenda while mindfully ignoring the will of the people (we don't fit in his vision of a "fundamentally transformed" America). Sure, he made some suggestions that might be considered conservative. If you don't think about them, that is. If you think about them, the only conclusion to draw is that he is working his butt off to socialize and nationalize everything. Everything.
If you don't know about the blogger, Fuzzy Slippers, I will tell you. She MUST be on your blogroll. This gal's writing is among the highest quality on the internet. She belongs writing for such top sites as American Thinker. All of her pieces are original, and astoundingly well-reasoned. As you can see, I can't say enough good things about Fuzzy Slippers, one of my favorite bloggers.

Capitalism, Ayn Rand Style
Here is a good synopsis of Ayn Rand's theories of government and freedom. I love how she refuses to let go of her central thought, despite the best efforts of her questioners.

We are on a Precipice, Alright.
Obama got that part right. Precipice = 1. A very steep or overhanging place. 2. A hazardous situation. Our country is teetering on the edge of socialism. Will we become a socialist country or remain capitalist.
Thinking of a precipice at this time of year, for a gal in my generation, brings visions of the Grinch. The Grinch brought all the presents to the top of Mount Crumpet. Will Obama dump our entire country over the edge of the precipice? Or will some little thing hold us back. One or 2 votes in the Senate, perhaps? One small thread to carry the hope of a nation.
These are dark days for those who believe in freedom. For those with an independent spirit. For those who believe that American means the promise of Equal Opportunity, not Equal Outcomes. The Entitlement Czars are in charge of the Treasury. Our debt almost equals our annual income already. Is this any way to run the place?
Anyone who would throw away capitalism for socialism is a Grinch. For the simple reason that our children will not be born into the Land of Opportunity like we were. They will live in a place that is different. Changed. A place with far less Hope.

Even Socialists are Against Obamacare
The primary problem with HR 3962 and the Senate proposals is that all of the changes they propose are made within a for-profit system. The House Bill strips the insurance companies of the right to deny coverage based on a pre-existing condition. Yet, it de-links the public option from Medicare reimbursement rates, thereby surrendering pricing to the private sector. The Bill removes the anti-trust exemption enjoyed by private insurers. However, it simultaneously mandates that all Americans carry some form of health insurance, thereby herding millions into low-coverage high-fee private plans. Each step in a positive direction is coupled with a restructuring that will enrich private insurance companies and pharmaceutical makers.
The bills lost further reform credentials as Democrats cut last minute deals with Republicans. Immigrants were removed from eligibility for the public option, abortions were written out of the proposal and Medicare funding was cut. The Medicare cuts are particularly cruel, since they will reduce an already compromised plan to bare bones coverage. Some of the cuts will limit private insurance profiteering, but others will slash necessary items such as exercise programs for seniors. Overall, these omissions signal that the reforms are not about providing comprehensive medical coverage, but about political expediency within the establishment political class. The next round of negotiations in the Senate is sure to produce even further regressive measures as campaign-donation driven legislators cut more deals.
Notice how they said "immigrants" instead of Illegal Immigrants? This is inaccurate.
I agree that the Medicare cuts are particularly cruel.
It just struck me odd to see this article. I thought they, at least, would be happy to see the proposed destruction of so large a segment of the capitalist system.

Perry: Obama "Hell-Bent" on Socialism
Texas GOP Gov. Rick Perry accused President Barack Obama on Wednesday of “punishing” Texas and being “hell-bent” on turning the United States into a socialist country.
Speaking at a luncheon for a Midland County Republican Women’s group, Perry said that “this is an administration hell-bent toward taking American towards a socialist country. And we all don’t need to be afraid to say that because that’s what it is.”
Perry praised the tea party movement to the Republican activists in attendance, crediting the grassroots groups with discouraging some Democrats in Washington from pushing for a public option in the health care bill.
“If you all think those tea parties didn’t work, then let me tell you something,” Perry said. “When they all came home in August for those town hall meetings, they got an earful. Then they went back to Washington, D.C. and the Senate voted that public option down in committee with a majority of Democrats in the Senate.”
Perry also accused the Obama administration of intentionally dumping illegal immigrants from other western states in Texas, recalling a conversation he had with local officials notifying him that illegal aliens that were caught in Nogales, Arizona were being dropped off by federal authorities in Presidio, Texas.

Obama Man Can Parody
Here is the Obama Man Can parody from the Rush Limbaugh Show. Obama begins by speaking to the nation's children, but the teleprompter breaks, and he bursts into song. H/T NNN.

Old Fashioned Video for the Kiddies (and grownups too)
This old-fashioned video is very educational, in a patriotic sort of way. May I suggest showing it to your children in place of Obama's speech. Somebody needs to get some perspective on the good things that have come from our capitalist society. Capitalism is not a dirty word. Remember. A government powerful enough to give you everything you need is powerful enough to take everything you have.

Ramming Speed?
If the people sit still and mind their manners, this monstrosity of a government takeover of 1/6 of the nation's economy will be rammed down our throats. The legislators are in fact approaching ramming speed. To ask people to sit calmly as they are about to get their teeth knocked out is to go against human nature, and to allow evil to be done to this nation. Yes, I said EVIL. I LIVED in Sweden for a short time. I have SEEN what SOCIALISM does to a people. How none of the children wanted to grow up to be ANYTHING. Government comes in and private initiative goes out. I have thanked my lucky stars every day of my life since then that I am an AMERICAN. [edit: I appreciated being an American as a kid, but traveling put our system into contrast in a way I had not known until then.] Do not now make me ashamed.--I left this comment on Left Coast Rebel in response to a commenter who said that we townhall Americans need to dial it down a notch. Hmph! I think NOT. There is HUGE pressure on our representatives, especially the Democrat ones, to pass government health care. They failed to pass Hilary-care, and they know they are burning bridges, so it is now or never. At least for this generation. Maybe when they raise up another generation on liberal pablum they can convince them to vote away their rights to life and health. The folks here have Wised Up.
Is Socialism a Dirty Word?
No, not if one is a socialist. Then it is simply an applied political philosophy. Share the wealth. Tear down the rich so nobody has to feel envy. Ooops. Tore down all the employers and now nobody has a job. Way to GO! Not.

My Son, I'm Sorry
Tim on Resist Net wrote this letter to his son after the second stimulus cleared the Senate:
Dear Son,
I woke this afternoon to the news that the Senate had passed this so called Stimulus.
I wrote letters, I sent e-mails, I made phone calls. Still I let you down, I am sorry.
For the decades of debt that has been put on your generation, I am sorry.
I know my generation has failed to maintain a watchful eye, I am sorry.
For allowing Government to get out of control, I am sorry.
For failing to secure your freedom and Liberty, I am sorry.
I have studied our Founding Fathers, and the Founding Documents. I will continue to learn and fight to return this Country to the Constitution on which it was founded. I promise you, I will do all in my power to stop this insanity before we hand the reigns to your generation. Please give me another chance. I Love You, Dad
This letter sums up the feelings of political helplessness that have plagued me these past months. The checks and balances written into our constitution are not working. I fear for us all. Please register and vote conservative in 2010 and bring balance back into government.

Cramer says US Gov't Depressing Financial Markets
Eyeblast.Tv ,Video Done Right

"The government seems to propose a tax a day to keep the profits away. The government seems to make us all feel like we should be investing in another country. Hey, you know what I want to be investing in (hits Chinese gong). It makes me think we could rally as much as 500 points if everybody in Washington just goes to the beach....if the news media would just black out the Bolshevik Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, it could be worth a couple of hundred points in the Dow, too. Come on, Madame Speaker, do it for the good of your country!" says Cramer, a popular American financial guru.
I hate to go all "conspiracy theory", but I sometimes wonder if the collapse of financial markets is not the plan. From chaos can emerge a New World Order. Cramer better watch it. I heard the last time he got real on his program he got called to the carpet by MSNBC higher-ups.

No Government Heathcare, Please.
It is time to look at another poster from Michelle Malkin's Obamacare poster contest. If you are worried about Nationalized Healthcare, please take the time to call, email or fax your congressman or senator. I did a google search for my reps, found their official websites, and used their own email contact form. That way they know for sure that I am a constituent. And I told them clearly that I am against Socialized Medicine. Please do the same, if you care. If you don't wish to live under socialism, now is the time to speak up.

How to Catch Wild Pigs
exchange students in the class.
One day while the class was in the lab the
Prof noticed one young man (exchange student) who kept rubbing his back,
and stretching as if his back hurt.
The professor asked the young man what was the matter.
The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back.
He had been shot while fighting communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his
country's government and install a new communist government.
In the midst of his story he looked at the professor and asked a
strange question. He asked, 'Do you know how to catch wild pigs?'
The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line.
The young man said this was no joke.
'You catch wild pigs by finding! a
suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground.
The pigs find it and begin to come everyday to eat the free corn.
When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming.
When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn
again and you put up another side of the fence.
They get used to that and start to eat again.
You continue until you have all four sides of the fence
up with a gate in The last side.
The pigs, who are used to the free corn, start to come through
the gate to eat, you slam the gate on them and catch
the whole herd.
Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom.
They run around and
around inside the fence, but they are caught.
Soon they go back to eating
the free corn.
They are so used to it that they have forgotten how to
forage in the woods for themselves, so they accept their captivity.
The young man then told the professor that is exactly what he sees
happening to America .
The government keeps pushing us toward socialism and
keeps spreading the free corn out in the form of programs such as
supplemental income, tax credit for unearned income, tobacco subsidies,
dairy subsidies, payments not to plant crops (CRP), welfare, medicine,
drugs, etc.
while we continually lose our freedoms - just a little at a
time.
One should always remember: There is no such thing as a free Lunch!
A politician will never provide a service for you cheaper than you can do
it for yourself.
"A government big enough to give you everything you want, is big
enough to take away everything you have.

Truths about Socialized Healthcare
There is an old Chinese curse: May you get what you wish for. Our healthcare is far from perfect, but it is still better than the alternatives. Here are some statistics for you.
Percentage of people who wait more than 4 months for surgery:
23% in Australia
26% in New Zealand
27% in Canada
36% in United Kingdom
5% in US
Heart surgery in the UK done 1/4 of the rate as done in the United States
Dialysis patients wait 62 days in Canada for blood-vessel access - 16 days in the United States
1.8 Million people are waiting for hospital care or outpatient treatment at any given time in the UK
160 day waiting period for knee replacement surgery in Norway
UK has 1/4 of CT scanners per capita of the US
UK has 1/3 of MRI scanners per capita of the US
UK provides only 1/4 of the rate of the US for coronary-bypass surgery
US provides life saving kidney treatments at the rate of 9 times than the UK for people over the age of 85 (Can you say rationing?)
Only one in ten adult Canadians have had a colonoscopy compared to one in three in the US
Twice as many Canadian women have not had a mammogram compared to the US
The rate of mortality is 25% higher in Canada than in the US for breast cancer, 8% for prostate cancer and 13% higher for colorectal cancer
Approx. 8 million of the uninsured in this country make more than $75,000 per year
