Blown Away By The Great Writing

It appears to be a slow news day, and I anticipated being bored, but these blog stories are amazing. First up is Robin of Berkeley. I love her name. Reminds me of Robin of Loxley. And she lives up to the moniker. Her formerly liberal hands strum the keyboard with a mastery that rings of genius. Listen to this, and be sure and read the rest at American Thinker (via BBCW). She goes on to make some pretty remarkable inferences as a therapist. Was Obama abused by his mentor? Hmmmm. Might explain his eagerness to punish us.
I've been feeling funky since Black Sunday, the day of the health care debacle. As a therapist, I'm usually able to identity my feelings. But this one had left me stumped.

I went through the usual laundry list of emotions: Am I depressed? (A little, but that's not it.) Worried, scared? (Yes, but who isn't?) Angry? (Very, but that's still not what's bugging me.)

It took a conversation with a conservative friend, Nancy, for me to pinpoint the feeling. Nancy told me that a Jewish co-worker, a staunch Obama supporter, was feeling "shell-shocked" by Obama's vilifying Israel.

Bingo. That's what it is: stunned, shell-shocked, traumatized.

But it's not PTSD -- post-traumatic stress disorder -- because then Obama would be ancient history. It's trauma happening right here, right now, at lightning speed.

Trauma means witnessing something that humans are not designed to see, a horror that is more than the self can absorb. The brutality of war, a gruesome crime scene, the sudden death of a loved one. Or the evil that unfolds through unchecked power yielded by megalomaniacs.

For me, trauma was that cloudless November day, years ago, when I exited an Oakland restaurant at noon and soon thereafter, lay prone on the concrete, bloody and broken.

Then there is Pamela Geller's post about Obama being the Biggest Hustle in Human History:
The other professors hated him because he was lazy, unqualified, never attended any of the faculty meetings, and it was clear that the position was nothing more than a political stepping stool. According to my professor friend, he had the lowest intellectual capacity in the building. He also doubted whether he was legitimately an editor on the Harvard Law Review, because if he was, he would be the first and only editor of an Ivy League law review to never be published while in school (publication is or was a requirement).
Consider this: 1. President Barack Obama, former editor of the Harvard Law Review, is no longer a "lawyer". He surrendered his license back in 2008 possibly to escape charges that he "fibbed" on his bar application. ...
4. A senior lecturer is one thing. A fully ranked law professor is another. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, "Obama did NOT 'hold the title' of a University of Chicago law school professor". Barack Obama was NOT a Constitutional Law professor at the University of Chicago.
5. The University of Chicago released a statement in March, 2008 saying Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) "served as a professor" in the law school, but that is a title Obama, who taught courses there part-time, never held, a spokesman for the school confirmed in 2008.
6. "He did not hold the title of professor of law," said Marsha Ferziger Nagorsky, an Assistant Dean for Communications and Lecturer in Law at the University of Chicago.

And a great piece I found on a non-political blog, by James P. Gannon. Not sure how this fits into the "Comedy Plus" theme. Maybe it is the Plus? Plus politics? Maybe there will be no non-political blogs by the end of Obama's term. Wouldn't that be something....
There is a quiet anger boiling in America.
It is the anger of millions of hard-working citizens who pay their bills, send in their income taxes, maintain their homes and repay their mortgage loans -- and see their government reward those who do not.
It is the anger of small town and Middle American folks who have never been to Manhattan, who put their savings in a community bank and borrow from a local credit union, who watch Washington lawmakers and presidents of both parties hand billions in taxpayer bailouts to the reckless Wall Street titans who brought down the economy in 2008.
It is the fury of the voiceless, the powerless, the ordinary nobodies of Flyover Country who are ridiculed, preached to, satirized and insulted by the Celebrity Loudmouths of the two Left Coasts, the Jon Stewarts and Keith Olbermanns, the Paul Krugmans and their ilk.
It is the salted wound of the millions who see that ruling Democrats in Congress are not listening to them but are willfully ignoring public opinion and the verdict of recent elections in passing a huge new health care entitlement when the existing entitlements of Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid are already going broke.
It is the frustrating helplessness of citizens who revere the Founding Fathers and the genius of the Constitution that they wrote, who actually believe the words of the Constitution mean what they say, not more and not less. They who watch politicians and the courts stretch and bend that Constitution -- finding "rights" not enumerated, powers never granted, meanings unimagined -- believe that their country is being redefined without their consent.

Concentrate...concentrate...

Physicians Sue To Stop Obamacare

I have to tell you that I have wondered why physicians didn't speak out more loudly against Obamacare this past year. I still don't understand why the American Medical Association endorsed it. I understand that the AMA represents less than 30% of all physicians. But why would they sell out their members so completely. Almost like the AARP endorsement throwing seniors under the bus. As if someone has been Bought Off.

To actually DO something about Obamacare, I suppose they had to wait until it became law. And now the AAPS, the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, has filed suit in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia (AAPS v. Sebelius et al.).
“If the PPACA (Obamacare) goes unchallenged, then it spells the end of freedom in medicine as we know it,” observed Jane Orient, M.D., the Executive Director of AAPS. “Courts should not allow this massive intrusion into the practice of medicine and the rights of patients.”

“There will be a dire shortage of physicians if the PPACA becomes effective and is not overturned by the courts.”

The PPACA requires most Americans to buy government-approved insurance starting in 2014, or face stiff penalties. Insurance company executives will be enriched by this requirement, but it violates the Fifth Amendment protection against the government forcing one person to pay cash to another. AAPS is the first to assert this important constitutional claim.

The PPACA also violates the Tenth Amendment, the Commerce Clause, and the provisions authorizing taxation. The Taxing and Spending power cannot be invoked, as the premiums go to private insurance companies. The traditional sovereignty of the States over the practice of medicine is destroyed by the PPACA.

I hope the physicians and the 14 states that are suing against Obamacare are successful. There are other ways to reform health care without gutting the best health care system in the world.

Reid Supporters Attack Breitbart and Tea Party Express-Video

The video is here. You can clearly see eggs being thrown at the Tea Party Express bus as it drives by. And one of the Democrats threatens Andrew Breitbart with violence if he doesn't "get out of here".
Here is a video of Breitbart talking with the police afterwards.

Fox News Forgot To Mention....

That the man arrested for shooting into Eric Cantor's congressional offices and threatening him is a MUSLIM. Hmmm. Odd that they would "forget" to mention that. And odder still, considering that the Saudis recently bought a stake in Fox News. Has Fox News sold out their objectivity in reporting ALL the news? Now they, too, like the lamestream media, are editing out muslim terrorist attacks and threats? I think we may need more diversity in news programming. One conservative/independent news organization is not enough. There need to be more. Competition is healthy for any industry.

Jammie Wearing Fool notes that Norman Leboon, a Muslim, just so happens to be a Barack Obama donor.

Michelle Malkin found the deranged leftist’s photo.

Leboon posted the video last Wednesday.
Philly.com reported:

According to the affidavit, Leboon allegedly said in the video: “Remember Eric . . . our judgment time, the final Yom Kippur has been given. You are a liar, you’re a Lucifer, you’re a pig, a greedy [expletive] pig. You’re an abomination. You receive my bullets in your office. Remember they will be placed in your heads. You and your children are Lucifer’s abominations.”

The video was reported to the FBI in San Francisco on Friday and Leboon allegedly told agents he posted it on Wednesday.

Andrew Breitbart Walks Onstage in Searchlight

There he is on the far right of the stage. Can you see the blonde gal? I think that is Hannah Giles. Very cool.

Breitbart brought home the point that Tea Party protesters are innocent until proven guilty of the racist smears spread by the left wing media. He increased the reward money from 10K to 100K if anybody has recordings of alleged racial epithets that Congressional Black Caucus members claim were slung at them last weekend. There are lots of videos of the congressmen marching through the crowd, and not one show any racist attack.

The Alinsky Socialists will have to try much harder if they want to discredit this popular political grassroots movement.

And I personally want to thank all of the wonderful Americans who attended. I looked at license plates as I walked in, by the way, and the vast majority, about 95 percent of the plates I saw, were Nevada plates. The crowd was anti-Reid in sentiment, and all high-propensity voters. I would say Reid is in trouble. Looks like he will be voted out in November. The way I see it, he could run against a Pet Rock and lose.

The Searchlight Crowd Was Huge

I saw somewhere that CNN said only 1000 people were there in Searchlight today. In this picture, the CNN news crew was located in the center of the crowd. So all the people behind their bleachers are cut out of the pictures. I had to climb a hillside to get this shot so the media LIARS could not succeed in downplaying this magnificent event.

Are Bankers Government-Owned Now?

I heard yesterday that Obama plans to force banks to reduce or eliminate mortgage payments for unemployed borrowers to 31% of their income. They will also be forced to forgive portions of loans for homes that are underwater, or owe more than the home is worth. This program would be financed through TARP. Can someone explain to me how Obama has the authority to interfere with private business contracts? Does he have the authority to use TARP funds for this purpose? I'm still scratching my head wondering where Obama got the authority to steal stock from auto company preferred stock holders and give it to the unions last year. Do contracts have no weight anymore in America? Am I paying your mortgage? In hard times is the government empowered to force private business to provide charity? Are bankers free? Or are they now slaves to the state.

Best. Rant. Ever.

Dan Riehl has this to say about today's events:
So, to hell with you crooks, you Constitutional criminals. And that's precisely what you are, now.

They have no right to feel outraged, these Democrats, after having spent weeks and months fueling outrage across America with the corrupt back room deals, their reconciliation plans and slippery bookkeeping, coupled with an absolute refusal to take the voice of the people into account in passing vile, un-American legislation America doesn't want. Shame on them. Shame!

And now, what? These malignant little tyrants want to play the victim? After victimizing America with their pathetic antics, their corrupt practices, all to push a destructive ideology America has long rejected? The Democrats are the real criminals here. They have torn the fabric of America with a repulsive world view they now hope to thrust upon the American people, whether we like it, or not.

More here.

While Freedom Died

I skiied. I needed some time with my family. I am heartsick that the Senate health care abomination passed the house. My daughter was in tears on the drive home. She knows that kids her age will be punished under this bill. She wonders why she busted her buns all these years getting good grades, and now having a decent job lined up after her June graduation. They will tax her too much. :-( Today was a happy and sad day for me.

And just like on 9/11, I am filled with resolve. There is nothing this country can't overcome.

For You Number Crunchers: Obamacare In All Its Ugliness

The Republican Conference has compiled a list of important numbers relevant to Democrats’ Senate bill combined with the proposed reconciliation bill. Check it out here:

$1.2 trillion: The total cost of the bill between 2010 and 2020 (though the real costs do not start until 2014), including $940 billion in coverage subsidies, $144.2 billion in additional mandatory spending, $70 billion in discretionary spending in the Senate bill, and $41.6 billion in unrelated education spending.

$208 billion: The cost of a ten year patch for the Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) to prevent reduction in Medicare physician payments. This cost is hidden because it was included in the earlier Democrat bill, but was dropped to provide a better cost estimate. It is expected to move separately and would bring the true cost of the takeover to $1.4 trillion.

$569.2 billion: Tax increases in the legislation, including $48.9 billion in new tax increases in the reconciliation bill alone.

$52 billion: The amount of new taxes on employers who cannot afford to pay their employees health care, imposed at a time when unemployment is 9.7 percent.

12: The number of new tax increases in the bill that violate President Obama’s pledge that, “Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase.”

46%: The percentage of families making less than $66,150 who will be forced to pay the individual mandate tax.

16,500: The estimated number of IRS auditors, agents and other employees that may be needed to collect the hundreds of billions in new taxes levied on the American people.

$20 billion: The estimated amount of money that the IRS and HHS will need for the cost of additional regulations, bureaucracy, and red tape over the next ten years. This spending is not included in CBO’s cost estimate of H.R. 4872.

$53 billion: The amount of revenue this bill raids from Social Security to appear as if it actually reduces the deficit.

$202.3 billion: The amount of money cut from the Medicare Advantage program for seniors to help offset the costs of a new entitlement.

$436 billion: The amount of federal subsidies in the bill that will go directly to insurance companies to provide health care in the exchange.

1 out of 22: The number of times the Senate has not somehow amended a reconciliation bill passed by the House, and thus required further House action.

63%: The percentage of physicians surveyed who feel that health reform is needed, but are opposed to this sweeping overhaul legislation.

$9 billion: The amount that the Ways and Means Committee estimated Medicare would spend annually after 25 years when it was passed in 1965. In reality, Medicare spent $67 billion in 1990, or seven times the initial cost estimate.

$1.55 trillion: The projected FY 2010 deficit—11 times the ten year “savings” Democrats claim the bill will produce by spending more than $1 trillion for this government takeover of health care.

Pelosi Backs Out of Deal With Stupak?

Pray that the vote falls flat on Sunday. For whatever reason. We need healthcare reform. But not like this...

By all accounts Bart Stupak has been pushing for an ironclad guarantee that the bill would only pass on the condition that his amendment is included. Kathryn Lopez hears what I hear:

Prospects for a Stupak deal may be collapsing. (Which, yes, could mean prospects for a vote tomorrow are collapsing. Or it could mean the White House/Pelosi twisted enough arms.)

More:

Stupak swingers at the moment appear to be: Kaptur of Ohio, Berry of Arkansas, Cueller of Texas, and Rahall of West Virginia.

If you live in any one of these districts, you might want to buck your representative up.

UPDATE: With #s:

Cueller 202-225-1640

BULLETIN: DEMS DON'T HAVE THE VOTES

By DICK MORRIS & EILEEN MCGANN

Published on DickMorris.com on March 19, 2010

From a top level source in the House comes the news that the Democrats are still short of the 216 votes they need to pass Obamacare. They have decided, however, to go for broke on Sunday and attempt to pass it whether or not they have enough support. They feel that only by forcing a vote can the force members off the fence. They hope that by employing all means at their disposal, they can round up enough votes for passage. But, if they don't have the votes, they will allow the measure to be defeated. One source called it a "suicide run."

The League of American Voters is strengthening its efforts.

I believe it. They may try the Deem and Pass scheme if the votes fall short. But even that is not a sure thing. Just because the Republican move to stop Deem and Pass was voted down does not mean that the Democrats will use it. The text of the Republican bill was an eye opener. Especially the last sentence: "Now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the House disapproves of the malfeasant manner in which the Democratic Leadership has thereby discharged the duties of their offices." Now, you and I know this to be true, but what Democrat is going to vote for a bill with this language. I don't understand why Republicans are pulling this cutesy stuff when the stakes are so serious. I mean, yes, it is true, but let's write a straight bill or resolution regarding the Slaughter rule without pointing fingers. There will be time for prosecutions later, if anybody has committed treason, bribery or impeachable offenses.

Bottom line is, keep calling and faxing. Dems want to get us tied up in knots. They want our heads to explode with talk of amnesty. Don't be side-tracked. Call your reps AGAIN. Fax them AGAIN. Donate to Morris's ad campaign, which worked to flip Arcuri's vote.

Cramer Says Obamacare Will Topple The Stock Market

Folks won't want to start new businesses faced with new taxes of $12,000 per year for healthcare. And everybody knows small business is what provides American jobs. What is worse, Obama said yesterday that he would move quickly on amnesty for illegal aliens after passage of Obamacare. This makes horrifying sense, because he and the Dems are going to need an awful lot of new voters in a hurry after offending their voting base by passing this destructive legislation. The problem is, the illegals would all be covered under Obamacare, increasing costs dramatically. I bet the Congressional Budget Office wasn't given THOSE numbers!

Rep Tom Periello (D-VA) "We Will Keep Stealing"

It sounds like a cry for help to me. "If you don't tie our hands, we will keep stealing." Yes, we have a big job ahead straightening out Washington.

This Deem and Pass stuff and Reconciliation need to be tossed out, too. I don't care WHO is in the majority. Majorities change. The Constitution says it takes 60 votes to pass legislation in the Senate. Can someone explain to me how the Senate or House can pass "rules" to supersede the Constitution that was put into place to control THEM? No matter how many years or how much legislation has been passed through unconstitutionally, IT MUST STOP! You either have the votes or you don't. If you don't, you better start talking to the opposition and adopting a more centrist viewpoint. That is the whole point of the 60 votes.

Please Pray For Our Nation-Hillbuzz

The bloggers at Hillbuzz are not religious guys, but today they went to a local Catholic church and lit every candle in the place, paying $50 for wax and matches. Their plea moved me.
We’re usually resolutely cheerful and as unemotional as possible around here. We’re not guys who cry often, no matter how bad things get, but we’ve never known of a time in history when America itself was in so much peril.

The Left is closer to its goals of destroying this country and rendering it “just another nation amongst 190 out there”. Perhaps the Devil itself, should it exist, is close to its own goal of smashing that city on a hill that’s endured for 233 years to lead the world to freedom and prosperity unparalleled in all history.

If the forces of darkness, socialism, and downright evil are so thoroughly mobilized, we hope the powers of good are aware of what’s going on. We hope armies of angels are in flight inspiring as many people as possible to resist the Democrats, to fight back, and to save this nation.

We needed to embrace emotion tonight.

Later this evening, we’ll get back to the bare-bones, by the books, strategy of organizing our idea to put enormous pressure on the wealthy donors who fund the DNC…to stop this madness immediately and rein Congress in. Because, that’s who we are. That’s how we can help.

But, we just love this country so much. We don’t want it to slide backwards. We don’t want the Left to gleefully destroy what generations before us fought so hard for.

We think of our grandparents staring down Hitler and Hirohito, and countless other villains, and socking them right in the face.

That’s what America should do to the despicable narcissist in the White House and the two reckless, ignorant, socialists in charge of the House and Senate currently.

If it doesn’t offend you to ask this, please pray for America tonight. Ask your friends to pray, too. Tomorrow, light some candles in your churches and ask the little old ladies in there to pray for our nation too.

We’re in trouble, people.

Deep trouble.

Worse than this nation has ever faced, because those who want to do America harm are not in Berlin and Tokyo, but in Washington itself.

They must be stopped.

We must pray that everyone has the strength collectively to form the Resistance needed to do that.

Please pray for our nation.

We truly beg of you.

Please pray we all have the strength to do our part to stop this madness.

A Cramdown For A Cramdown

I was listening to the radio this morning, and a liberal caller said that Bush forced Iraq down everybody's throats, so it is only fair to cram Obamacare down the throats of the American public. He went on to say that "bipartisanship is overrated".

Be Of Good Cheer-It WON'T Pass

The Whip Count as reported by The Hill blog is heartening. If all congressional Republicans vote NO on the Obamacare bill, the maximum Democrats that can vote NO on the bill are 37 in order for the bill to pass by 216 votes. The number of NO votes by Dems ALREADY equals 37 as of today. And there are 70 undecideds. All we need is for ONE more Dem to vote NO and Obamacare is dead. I'm beginning to believe that this bill will go down in flames. As it should. It is really an awful bill. How anybody could think that this overreach could make good law for America is beyond my grasp.

Dems should start over, taking each issue separately. Preexisting conditions? PASSED! Insurance portability? PASSED! Tort reform? Ok, I'm dreaming here. Dems need to boot the trial lawyers out of bed before that can happen....

Melt The Phone Lines And Faxes-Call Congress!

Big push today. I heard on the radio that the American Left is receiving blast emails today from the Daily Kos and others asking for donations and calls to congressmen to support passage of this horrible and worsening health care bill.

Don't be left out of the fun. You can send a free fax to congress at this site:

http://ciafax.ning.com/

I sent the fax at the top of the list last night. The Just Say No fax was sent to the Blue Dog Democrat congressmen. Just type in a few windows and hit send. Simple and absolutely free.

And down in the middle of the page on Dick Morris's blog, is a handy list of vulnerable Democrats to call. We must not waver. This is the big week. Let's all pull together.

Slaughter Strategy Explained

"This is how you overthrow the U.S. Government."
I was thinking about this today. The term "Progressive" means a person who is liberal and wants to change the American Political system to socialism or communism without frank, open war, so the "progress" must be done in small steps so the American People don't notice. Progressivism has been very successful in America. Liberal Progressives have worked their way into controlling schools/curricula, Hollywood, and the formerly free press. But since Obama was elected, politics have been anything but progressive. They have become Aggressive. Frank, open war against the Constitution such as government takeovers of the banking and auto industry, the threatened use of reconciliation to enact sweeping government takeover of health care, and odd new rules for enacting legislation such as the Slaughter Rule. Both houses of congress need to vote and pass the same piece of legislation before the President can sign it? Remember School House Rock? Fuggeddaboutit!

I saw this over at Red State today and it sums up this past year nicely:

Let’s recap the last year of the Democrats’ Health Care Takeover adventure. Why? Because it was fun, and we won:

  • With 60% majorities in both House and Senate, and flush from victories on Porkulus and Cap-and-Trade, Obama and the media tried selling America on their signature issue - government health care takeover — with glib lies, fuzzy math, and blaming ‘evil’ insurance companies.
  • FAIL – it smelled like a government takeover.
  • They shut Republicans and their ideas out of all discussions, in order to shut down dissent.
  • FAIL – America noticed, and so came the August recess fiasco. So also came 99.54% party discipline, as only Joe Cao (from a hyper-blue district) voted with the Democrats, to date.
  • They skipped, dodged, and staged astroturfed townhalls.
  • FAIL – Twitter. Internet. Americans found and crashed the meetings anyway.
  • They sent their SIEU and ACORN thugs to intimidate ordinary outraged Americans.
  • FAIL – People took their beatings. And brought video cameras.
  • Obama and the media decided they had not made themselves clear. So, more speeches, ABC specials, and more blaming of insurance companies. And doctors.
  • FAIL – America actually HAD heard it right the first time. and polls really started to look nasty.
  • They accused Republicans of just being obstructionists, having no alternative plans themselves.
  • FAIL — Republicans were obstructing with the blessing of their constituents, and their always existing plans sounded a whole lot like cost-lowering free-market ideas. [correction, h/t Jeff Emanuel - Repubs lacked numbers to actually obstruct anything, which the press unerringly failed to ever point out]
  • Their own members began to revolt, so they were bribed and blackmailed
  • FAIL – Americans reacted very badly to the Chicago way.
  • They passed the Senate version on Dec 24 while America traveled and thought of loved ones.

At this point they really thought they had won this thing. Unfortunately for them, Americans are not like Russians, programmed to serve silently and cower in fear of their government.

It was just getting interesting.

  • FAIL – America noticed anyway. McDonnell and Christie smoked VA and NJ governor elections. Scott Brown campaigned as “Mister 41″, and easily won the “Do it for Teddy” seat in deep-blue MA.
  • They plotted to delay the seating of Scott Brown in order to get a bill passed.
  • FAIL – once that was made public, they denied they would have considered such a dastardly thing.
  • With America dead set against it……more speeches. And publicly dressing down the Supreme Court.
  • FAIL – again, America already got the message, polls sunk even further, and wobbling Democrats were catching bloody hell from their constituents.
  • With 60 out of the question and 216 shaky at best, they decided to break congressional rules and jam the bill through by “reconciliation”.
  • FAIL – the shaky 216 started to look more like 200.
  • With no more hopes of even passing the House, now they propose the Slaughter Rule — to declare the Senate bill passed without a vote.
  • FAIL – just wait and see.

Update: the reconciliation bill is posted online, complete with a government takeover of the student loan industry, "green schools" and the PUBLIC OPTION. But don't worry. There isn't anything to see here. Move along, move along...

Don't Mess With Texas's Textbooks!

The New York Times tried to portray the Texas Board of Education members as overboard, so to speak, but I find that the things they wanted included in the Texas curriculum should have been there all along. Way to GO, Texas!!!!!
The conservative members maintain that they are trying to correct what they see as a liberal bias among the teachers who proposed the curriculum. To that end, they made dozens of minor changes aimed at calling into question, among other things, concepts like the separation of church and state and the secular nature of the American Revolution.

“I reject the notion by the left of a constitutional separation of church and state,” said David Bradley, a conservative from Beaumont who works in real estate. “I have $1,000 for the charity of your choice if you can find it in the Constitution.”

They also included a plank to ensure that students learn about “the conservative resurgence of the 1980s and 1990s, including Phyllis Schlafly, the Contract With America, the Heritage Foundation, the Moral Majority and the National Rifle Association.”

Dr. McLeroy, a dentist by training, pushed through a change to the teaching of the civil rights movement to ensure that students study the violent philosophy of the Black Panthers in addition to the nonviolent approach of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He also made sure that textbooks would mention the votes in Congress on civil rights legislation, which Republicans supported.

“Republicans need a little credit for that,” he said. “I think it’s going to surprise some students.”

Mr. Bradley won approval for an amendment saying students should study “the unintended consequences” of the Great Society legislation, affirmative action and Title IX legislation. He also won approval for an amendment stressing that Germans and Italians as well as Japanese were interned in the United States during World War II, to counter the idea that the internment of Japanese was motivated by racism.

Other changes seem aimed at tamping down criticism of the right. Conservatives passed one amendment, for instance, requiring that the history of McCarthyism include “how the later release of the Venona papers confirmed suspicions of communist infiltration in U.S. government.” The Venona papers were transcripts of some 3,000 communications between the Soviet Union and its agents in the United States.

Mavis B. Knight, a Democrat from Dallas, introduced an amendment requiring that students study the reasons “the founding fathers protected religious freedom in America by barring the government from promoting or disfavoring any particular religion above all others.”

It was defeated on a party-line vote.

After the vote, Ms. Knight said, “The social conservatives have perverted accurate history to fulfill their own agenda.”

In economics, the revisions add Milton Friedman and Friedrich von Hayek, two champions of free-market economic theory, among the usual list of economists to be studied, like Adam Smith, Karl Marx and John Maynard Keynes. They also replaced the word “capitalism” throughout their texts with the “free-enterprise system.”

“Let’s face it, capitalism does have a negative connotation,” said one conservative member, Terri Leo. “You know, ‘capitalist pig!’ ”

In the field of sociology, another conservative member, Barbara Cargill, won passage of an amendment requiring the teaching of “the importance of personal responsibility for life choices” in a section on teenage suicide, dating violence, sexuality, drug use and eating disorders.

“The topic of sociology tends to blame society for everything,” Ms. Cargill said.

Even the course on world history did not escape the board’s scalpel.

Cynthia Dunbar, a lawyer from Richmond who is a strict constitutionalist and thinks the nation was founded on Christian beliefs, managed to cut Thomas Jefferson from a list of figures whose writings inspired revolutions in the late 18th century and 19th century, replacing him with St. Thomas Aquinas, John Calvin and William Blackstone. (Jefferson is not well liked among conservatives on the board because he coined the term “separation between church and state.”)

“The Enlightenment was not the only philosophy on which these revolutions were based,” Ms. Dunbar said.

Thank you, Texas. I have been blogging and praying for a year that there would be a way for us to take back our schools from the liberal bias that has dominated public school teaching this past half century. You have gone a long way to accomplishing that and I, as an American Parent, am SO grateful!

Scott Brown Schools Obama on Leadership - #obamafail

I'm liking Scott Brown's weekly radio address. Sit back and listen to Senator Hottie McAwesome blast Obama to outer space. I hope the legislators listen to Brown and keep faith with the Americans who voted for them to represent them in Washington. Keeping faith. Semper Fidelis.

Obama's Sick Obsession-WA Times Editorial (w permission)

It is neat that the Washington Times grants permission to reprint articles in their entirety. I just need to include their google ads, which is fine. I think they capture the essence of Obama's unhealthy obsession with healthcare destruction. He wants a legacy which he thinks will be good. He is wrong. His legacy of destruction will start immediately. Most Americans know that, but Obama and his minions will not listen, the core of taxation without representation. Just say no to tyranny, I always say....

EDITORIAL: Obama's sick obsession

By THE WASHINGTON TIMES

Nationalized health care is the progressives' Golden Fleece. It is their obsession, the ultimate prize that was denied to previous administrations but is closer than it ever has been. As the ability of government to take over the health care system draws tantalizingly near, the president and leaders of the majority party have become infected with a kind of mania. President Obama and Democratic congressional leaders seem determined to ram through a severely flawed piece of legislation by any means necessary, heedless of the desires of the American people or the negative impact on the system they mistakenly say needs to be saved.

A large majority of Americans are satisfied with their current health care plans, though most also think the system could be improved. Yet proponents of the Democrats' radical health care overhaul brazenly claim the system is irretrievably broken and only radical surgery will save it. According to the latest Gallup poll numbers, less than a fifth of even those who favor health reform agree with that position. The majority of Americans are divided between those who want a scaled-back health care measure and those who want the current project dropped entirely. If any system is broken, it is the legislative process.

Long-time Democratic pollsters Patrick H. Caddell and Douglas E. Schoen warned last week that "the battle for public opinion has been lost" on heath care. Democrats have backed themselves into a corner. If the bill fails, they suffer a defeat. But if they win, they also lose because Democrats "will face a far greater calamitous reaction" in November. "Wishing, praying or pretending will not change these outcomes," they caution.

But the glittering prize is too near for such sage counsel. The liberal leadership is infused with a sense of mission. They are the midwives to history, shepherding landmark legislation that will revise the American social contract and usher in a new era, or some such foolishness. All they need to do is pass the bill, and the poor, frightened, deluded American people will see the wisdom of their decisions. Hence House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's memorable (and revealing) comment, "We have to pass the [health care] bill so that you can find out what is in it." In her imagination, once the bill is signed, voters won't remember the struggle, just the glow of the accomplishment. Rip off the bandage; you'll feel better after the sting.

The Democrats' headlong drive is leading to bouts of political insanity, such as the aptly named Slaughter rule, which potentially could allow the House of Representatives to "deem" the health bill passed without a final vote. That the Democratic leadership would consider resorting to such a stunt betrays a high degree of contempt for the electorate, whom they presumably think will not remember or care that their representatives would not go on the record on such a major piece of legislation.

Disaffected voters, however, will recognize cowardice for what it is. Add to this the Louisiana Purchase, the Cornhusker Kickback, the backroom dealing, special-interest loopholes and fundamental unsoundness of placing government at the center of the health care system, and November will be a slaughter indeed.
